Nativity (Correggio)

Nativity, also known as The Holy Night or Adoration of the Shepherds, is an oil on canvas painting by the Italian artist Antonio da Correggio, finished around 1529 to 1530 and measuring about 256.5 by 188 centimeters. It depicts the nativity of Christ, centered on the Christ Child surrounded by the Virgin Mary, shepherds, angels, Saint Joseph, and traditional presepe animals. The work is noted for its masterful chiaroscuro, the treatment of light and shadow. It is held at the Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, Germany.
