White Angel is a fresco of around 1235 in the Church of the Holy Trinity at the Mileseva monastery in Serbia. It depicts the angel at the tomb of the risen Christ, dressed in radiant white robes and seated on the stone that sealed the burial place, gesturing toward the empty tomb as it addresses the myrrh-bearing women who came to anoint Christ body on Easter morning. Painted during the reign of the Serbian king Stefan Vladislav as part of the monastery larger fresco cycle, White Angel is among the most celebrated works of medieval Serbian art and is widely reproduced as an emblem of Serbian cultural heritage.
