Baroque and Rococo Painters

Painters working in the Baroque style that followed the Renaissance, roughly the late sixteenth through the mid eighteenth century, marked by dramatic light and shadow, dynamic composition and emotional intensity, and its lighter, more decorative eighteenth century successor Rococo. This group is split into two children, Italian Baroque and Non-Italian Baroque and Rococo, matching the same regional division used for the Renaissance group above, since Italy originated the Baroque style before it spread and diversified across Spain, the Dutch Republic, Flanders, France and Central Europe. A painter belongs here by period and dramatic, painterly technique, not by subject; a plainer, later observational style belongs instead under Realism.
