Painters of the Italian Baroque, working in Rome, Naples, Bologna, Venice and other Italian centers from around 1600 through the mid eighteenth century, including the dramatic, high-contrast naturalism pioneered in Rome and its many regional schools and followers across the Italian peninsula. This group excludes painters working the same dramatic, painterly Baroque technique outside Italy, gathered under Non-Italian Baroque and Rococo, and excludes earlier Italian Renaissance painters and later Italian painters working in other movements.
