Martin Knoller was an Austrian-Italian painter who lived from 1725 to 1804, remembered for his fresco work spanning both the Baroque and Rococo styles, with Rococo prevailing more in his paintings than in his frescoes. His greatest patron was Karl Joseph von Firmian, the Imperial Governor of Lombardy under Maria Theresa, who commissioned him to paint the Palazzo Firmian-Vigoni.
