Carpoforo Tencalla

Carpoforo Tencalla was a Swiss Italian Baroque painter, born in Bissone, Switzerland, on September 10, 1623 and trained in Lombardy. He introduced seventeenth century Italian painting style, with its mythological subjects, to Central Europe, reviving large scale fresco painting, and produced extensive decorative work in monasteries, palaces and churches across Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany during the 1600s. He remained relatively obscure until recently gaining renewed attention from art scholars and historians. He died on March 9, 1685.
