Agostino Ciampelli

Agostino Ciampelli (1565-1630) was an Italian Baroque painter trained under Santi di Tito in Florence before establishing a long career in Rome under the patronage of Pope Clement VIII and Alessandro de' Medici. He produced religious frescoes and altarpieces, including crucifixions and biblical narrative scenes, for major churches such as Santa Prassede, Santa Maria in Trastevere and the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. His work in oils, fresco and drawing served the devotional and decorative needs of Counter-Reformation Rome across a career that spanned both Florence and Rome until his death in 1630.
