Tommaso Donini

Tommaso Donini, also known as Tommaso Dovini and called Il Caravaggino, was an Italian Baroque painter born in Rome on December 21, 1601. He specialized in altarpieces and worked mainly in Rome as a follower of Caravaggio, a reputation built on extensive copying of Caravaggios style in Angelo Caroselli's workshop, which is thought to have earned him his nickname. He studied under Giovanni Lanfranco and Caroselli and later collaborated with Andrea Sacchi between 1630 and 1632. He was previously misidentified as Tommaso Luini due to confusion by the biographer Giovanni Baglione. He died in Rome on March 21, 1637.
