Mahmoud Said (1897-1964), also rendered Mahmoud Sa'id, was an Egyptian painter and judge, the son of a former Egyptian prime minister, who worked in the Mixed Courts of Egypt for most of his career while painting prolifically from 1919 until his death. Trained partly at the Academie Julian in Paris and under Italian painters in Alexandria, he became one of the founding figures of modern Egyptian painting, exhibiting at the Venice Biennale in 1938 and 1948 and in New York in 1937.
