Painters clearly part of the twentieth century's broader break from representational, single-viewpoint painting, including Symbolism, Futurism, Constructivism, Dada, De Stijl, Mexican Muralism, Suprematism, Nouveau realisme and numerous national modernist movements and self-taught or naive modern painters, whose work does not fit one of this group's more specifically named sibling movements, Cubism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism or Pop Art. This is a residual group by design: a painter belongs here only after a specifically named modernist movement has been ruled out, and a painter later documented as belonging to one of those named movements should be moved there instead rather than left here for convenience.
