Maqbool Fida Husain, known as M. F. Husain (1915-2011), was an Indian painter and film director associated with the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group, working in a modified Cubist style applied to Hindu epics, historical figures and scenes of Indian life. His narrative paintings made him one of India's most commercially successful artists, with works fetching high prices at international auction. He also directed film, winning the National Film Award for Best Experimental Film in 1967 for Through the Eyes of a Painter.
