Bernardino Luini was a north Italian painter from Leonardo da Vinci's circle during the High Renaissance. Along with Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, he was said to have worked with Leonardo directly, described as taking as much from Leonardo as his native abilities allowed him to comprehend, so that many of his works were once attributed to Leonardo himself. He was known especially for his graceful female figures with elongated eyes, a style later termed Luinesque by Vladimir Nabokov.
