Guglielmo Caccia

Guglielmo Caccia, known as Il Moncalvo, was an Italian painter born in Montabone near Acqui in 1568 and died in 1625, working in a late Mannerist style largely devoted to religious subjects. Said to have trained under Lorenzo Sabbatini, he built a prominent practice across northern Italy, taking commissions in Milan, Pavia and Novara, where his best known work, the Deposition from the Cross, hangs in the church of San Gaudenzio. He also shaped the next generation of northern Italian painting through his daughter Orsola Caccia and pupils including Daniele Crespi and Giorgio Alberino.
