Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, known as Parmigianino, was an Italian Mannerist painter and printmaker active in Florence, Rome, Bologna and his native Parma. His work is marked by a refined sensuality and elongation of form, seen in works such as the Vision of Saint Jerome and the Madonna with the Long Neck, and he remains the best known artist of the first generation whose entire career fell within the Mannerist period.
