A Doll's House is a three act play by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, first published in December 1879 and first performed later that month at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. Set in a Norwegian town of the period, the play follows a wife and mother who comes to question the constraints of her marriage and household role, and its ending was considered shocking on its first appearance. It is widely regarded as a landmark of realist drama and of nineteenth century writing on women's roles in marriage.
