Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 is an oil painting completed by Georgia O'Keeffe in 1932, presenting an extreme close-up of a white jimson weed blossom that fills almost the entire canvas, part of O'Keeffe's celebrated series of large-scale magnified flower paintings begun in the 1920s. O'Keeffe herself resisted the widespread interpretation of these paintings as veiled depictions of female anatomy, insisting instead that she simply wanted viewers to see flowers as she saw them, at a scale that forced real attention. In 2014 the painting sold at auction for 44.4 million dollars, at the time the highest price ever paid at auction for a work by a woman artist.
