The Temple of Bel was an ancient temple in Palmyra, Syria, consecrated to the Mesopotamian god Bel and worshipped there in a triad with the lunar god Aglibol and the sun god Yarhibol. Dedicated in AD 32, it formed the center of religious life in Palmyra until it was closed during a late Roman Empire campaign against pagan temples between 385 and 388. Its ruins were considered among the best preserved at Palmyra until they were further destroyed by the Islamic State in August 2015, though the arched main entrance, exterior walls and fortified gate survive.
