The Son of a Migrant from Syria

The Son of a Migrant from Syria is a 2015 mural by the anonymous British street artist Banksy, painted on a wall in the makeshift refugee encampment near Calais, France, known as the Calais Jungle. The mural depicts Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, carrying an old-fashioned bag over his shoulder and holding an early Apple computer, a reference to the fact that Jobs biological father was a Syrian migrant to the United States. Created amid international debate over the European migrant crisis, the work was intended as a pointed reminder that migrants and their descendants can go on to make major contributions to the countries that take them in.
