Guido Reni was an Italian Baroque painter whose work favored a classical manner in the tradition of Simon Vouet, Nicolas Poussin and Philippe de Champaigne. He painted primarily religious subjects alongside mythological and allegorical scenes. Active in Rome, Naples and his native Bologna, he became the dominant figure of the Bolognese School that grew out of the influence of the Carracci family.
